Embedding a Safety-First Mindset
Safety is integral to everything we do at Unilever. It is key to growing our business and protecting the health and wellbeing of our people. In Australia, we are working hard on our ‘Vision Zero’ safety strategy and embedding a safety-first mindset across our business.
A key part of this is celebrating progress along the way. In 2016, our North Rocks Factory in Sydney took out Unilever’s Premier Safety Award, a global award that recognises the Unilever team making the most impact to employee safety. Our CEO Paul Polman commended the team’s dedication to a strong safety culture and continued focus on processes, systems and training to help guide our people in adopting safe behaviours.
The team’s unwavering commitment to safety also helped our North Rocks site achieve an unprecedented score of 100% in the Unilever Red Book safety audit, which measures our compliance against Unilever’s stringent Red Book Process Safety standards which are considered best-practice safety standards in the aerosol industry.
These tremendous achievements are a testament to the whole team and also the strong leadership of Tung Dang, our Factory Director. As Tung explains, ‘Every member of the team has played a key part in our success and making sure that our people arrive, work and go home safely to their family and friends at the end of each day. We are very proud to be recognised as pioneers for manufacturing safety but we know there is always more to do to maintain our high standards and achieve our safety vision’.
