Dove builds self-esteem and body confidence
We have a vision of the world where beauty is a source of confidence, not anxiety. We're on a mission to help the next generation of women develop a positive relationship with the way they look, helping them raise their self-esteem and realise their full potential.
Why is this important? Dove global research shows:
Only 4% of women around the world consider themselves beautiful, and anxiety about appearance begins at an early age.
6 out of 10 girls are so concerned with the way they look, that they actually opt out of participating fully in daily life – from going swimming and playing sports, to visiting the doctor, going to school or even offering their opinions.
In Australia, only 20% of women identify as having high self-esteem. Something needs to be done - and that's where we come in.
Dove self- esteem project
In 2004, we turned this commitment into the Dove Self-Esteem Project and created a comprehensive, syllabus compliant teacher’s resource to support the teaching of self-esteem and personal development in Health and Physical Education. We call it ‘Confident me’. This program has been created in conjunction with world leading experts in appearance anxiety and body confidence.
In Australia, we collaborate with The Butterfly Foundation, who provide the Confident Me program through training workshops and in-school workshops.
But we’re not finished yet
We continue to expand the program across Australia and New Zealand, including working with partner organisations and rolling out digital resources to maximise the reach of the program.
Worldwide by 2020, Dove plans to double its social impact through the Dove Self-Esteem Project by reaching the lives of 20 million more young people around the world; that’s 40 million young lives in total.
