The Sustainable Business Council’s purpose is to help businesses be the best for New Zealand and the world. It’s a membership organisation that aims to mainstream sustainability within the New Zealand business community. Members make a commitment to build sustainability into their purchasing and production decisions.

Unilever has, from its origins, been a purpose-driven company. Today our purpose is simple but clear – to make sustainable living commonplace. In 2010, Unilever launched our global Unilever Sustainable Living Plan (USLP), which is our blueprint for sustainable business.

In Australia and New Zealand, the USLP is embedded at the heart of everything we do and encompasses every facet of the business, from supply chain to marketing. This includes Unilever’s brands with purpose and a number of sustainable living partnerships and programs, which are carefully fostered to ensure that Unilever is meeting our goals.

Unilever New Zealand’s ambition is to be a frontrunner in this space by stepping up engagement with the USLP and localising partnerships to make the USLP tangible for Kiwis.

In 2018, we’re seeking to drive this in a number of ways. Our brands with purpose form a key part of our approach, and this year we look forward to bringing them to life for Kiwis.

Through this partnership with the Sustainable Business Council, Unilever looks forward to building on our advocacy agenda and adding to the already strong business case for sustainability. The membership will allow Unilever the opportunity to contribute their knowledge and experience to policy development, help us to build employee engagement, provide networking opportunities and give us the ability to collaborate across industries on key sustainability projects.

As Nick Bangs, GM NZ, explains, membership of the Sustainable Business Council “allows us to share our triumphs in sustainable business with our industry peers, providing learning opportunities to further this agenda throughout New Zealand. Unilever New Zealand looks forward to positioning ourselves as a credible leader in sustainable business, growing external perception of us as a change agent and sharing our local success stories with the broader Unilever family.”
