Waste materials from manufacturing represent a financial cost to a company and a burden on the environment because of the energy used in their production and the pollution caused in their disposal.

Unilever's impact

Waste is classified according to its potential for causing harm, usually as hazardous and non-hazardous.

Typical examples of manufacturing wastes are wash waters, waste packaging (some is recycled) and spent materials used in some processes. We are indirectly responsible for the waste produced by consumers when using our products. Please see the packaging issues section for information on consumer waste.
