Aussies give the Brits some Curry!

29/06/2008 : Leading actor shuns British traditions in a salute to Aussie culture.

Whether you’re a beloved Baby Boomer or Y Generationer, one home truth we can’t deny is that Australians don’t do it like the British anymore – so it’s about time we had a new set of modern manners, minus the silver spoon.

Leading Aussie actor Stephen Curry and the team from Bushells Tea are officially launching a new Australian etiquette guide, bucking British hoity toity in favour of true Aussie tea drinking habits.

Produced in quintessential laconic and self-deprecating Aussie fashion, the guide considers everything from tea drinking and dunking protocol, to neighbourly faux pas – providing a humorous look at Australian culture and social practices today.

As one of Australia’s finest comic talents, Stephen Curry suggests the new guide should go straight to the pool room.

“We’ve all grown up with great Australian values and good Australian brands like Bushells, so it’s about time we had a set of values that reflect today’s tea drinkers. We’re not English – so why on earth would we drink tea like they do?

“There’s never been a better time to look at Australian etiquette and tea drinking values than in 2008 – the 125th year of Bushells’ existence. Thinking back, I really can't believe that it's been 125 years. It feels like 123.”

Bushells spokesperson, Nick Goddard says the much heralded launch of the Bushells Tea Etiquette Guide comes in response to recent research findings, which reinforced our shift away from British traditions and social niceties.

“Aussies have always been proud of our unique way of doing things. Certain behaviour - such as using a teaspoon to delicately stir a cup of tea with one’s pinkie raised - is flat out un-Australian. So, it’s about time we bucked the British tea drinking habits in favour of a new Aussie set of social principles," he said.

Next month, the Bushells Tea Troupes will be hitting the streets of Sydney and Melbourne to send off the last of the old British ways, offering Aussie commuters the new Bushells Tea Etiquette Guide printed on tea towels. Full versions are also available online at the Bushells web site or via the link below.

The guide release comes on the back of Bushells most recent product launch, Bushells Australian Breakfast tea – a premium tea, specifically designed for Australian tastes – celebrating the uniqueness and individual tradition of the nation’s tea culture.
