Get your day off to a flying start

Some people swear by a cold shower; others make do with a strong cup coffee. But nothing sets you up for the day better than a good breakfast each morning. You'll supply your body with fuel and better able to stay focused until lunch.

It's well known that children who follow a healthy diet that includes a good breakfast every morning perform better than those who set off to school on an empty stomach. And it's not only youngsters who reap the benefits of good nourishment every morning.

Studies have shown that adults too are more alert and productive if they manage to wake up in time for a decent breafast.

Wake up with a jolt

Still think that skipping breakfast is the fast way to losing weight? Nutritionists would beg you to reconsider. After up to 12 hours' fasting overnight, the body is depleted of energy – think of your day as an eight-hour marathon for your body, and then think of getting by on no fuel.

Nothing sets you up for the day better than a boost of carbohydrate and essential fatty acids that a good breakfast can deliver, for example via whole-wheat bread with a low-fat margarine spread. Or, for a quick energy burst, try eating fruits high in sugar – grapes, raisins and bananas are good choices.

Enjoy a good spread

With valuable plant oils, margarine is one of the simplest ways to get essential fatty acids and fat-soluble vitamins A, D and E into your system, and it plays an important role in good nutrition. Plus, like all vegetable fats, margarine is virtually free of cholesterol. It's easy to spread and can be used in many different ways.
