Caring for your feather duvet or quilt
Feather duvets and quilts can be washed or dry cleaned, depending on the size, the outer fabric and the type and degree of soiling. Generally, bulky items respond better to drycleaning than washing. Heavy, oily soil is often difficult to remove in home washing but dissolves readily in drycleaning solvent.
- Be sure to check for tears before washing or dry-cleaning and always follow instructions on the care label
- Wash duvets/quilts with soap not strong detergents
- Rinse in warm water 2-3 times to remove all suds
- Squeeze out excess water and place into a basket lined with plastic, to prevent dripping and carry to the washing machine. Be careful wet items can be heavy
- Place evenly around the bowl of the washing machine and spin on a normal cycle
- Shake well and dry over 2-3 lines on the clothes line; turn and shake frequently
- To avoid the feather/down drying in clumps, complete drying in the tumble dryer. If necessary, dry larger items at the laundromat
- Tears in feather/down items should be repaired at once to prevent the feathers and down from leaking out
- When storing your feather or down duvet/quilt, it should be packed loosely, not compressed in a bag.
