Latest scientific understanding around the health benefits of tea.

Drinking tea has long been, and continues to be, associated with health benefits, especially in the area of heart health. There is, however, a new scientific understanding of exactly how these health benefits are delivered. Historically scientists understood that flavonoids found in tea were antioxidants. Antioxidants were understood to help the human body protect itself against free radicals, which are molecules that can damage cells. We now understand that antioxidants do not work in this way in the body. Flavonoids are still found in tea, but what we now know is that flavonoids work in a different way. Tea is a rich source of flavonoids. Studies show us that flavonoids are associated with a lower risk of cardiovascular disease. And this is probably why tea helps us to keep our blood vessels healthy. In the coming months, you will see that our packaging across all our tea products will change to reflect this new understanding – we’ll be talking more specifically about flavonoids and their role in human health.
