Beyond Stereotypes

Dove is raising awareness of the link between beauty and body-related self-esteem.

Real beautyDove supports self-esteem

The initiative continues an ongoing effort by Dove to fund programmes that raise self-esteem in girls and young women.

In 2006 Dove commissioned a study to explore self-esteem and the impact of beauty ideals on both women's and girls' lives.

The findings speak for themselves...

  •  Only 1% of Australian women describe themselves as beautiful, one percentage point less than the global figure.

  • 31% of Australian women are dissatisfied with their body weight.

  • 81% of Australian women strongly agree that media and advertising set an unrealistic standard of beauty that most women can't ever achieve.

  • 57 per cent strongly agree that women today are expected to be more physically attractive than their mother's generation.

Real women inspire women everywhere

The Dove Campaign for Real Beauty is a global effort that is intended to serve as a starting point for societal change and act as a catalyst for widening the definition and discussion of beauty.

The campaign supports the Dove mission: to make women feel more beautiful every day by challenging today’s stereotypical view of beauty and inspiring women to take great care of themselves.
